Hiring Benefits

Bringing on new employees, can be expensive. Our team is here to streamline the process. Click on a benefit below to learn more about it.

The OJT program allows you to hire an eligible employee and be reimbursed for a portion of the employee’s wages during a mutually agreed upon training period. We can help you recruit for the position or work with an eligible individual you have already identified. The important part is to speak with us before the new employee is actually hired. Contact us to learn more!

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program can provide a federal tax credit of up to $9,600 to employers who hire individuals who are members of specific target groups. Click here to obtain more information on the WOTC program. A description of the eligible target groups may be accessed by clicking here for FAQs, and choosing “What are the target groups?” question.

You may also contact us for more information and assistance filling out the application.

The Employment Development Department’s (EDD) Fidelity Bonding Program provides bonding services to help alleviate employers’ concerns in hiring ex-offenders and at-risk job applicants. Click here to review EDD’s Fidelity Bonding Program Fact Sheet.

This program is offered at no cost to employers through job centers like AFWD throughout California.

A fidelity bond secured through this program remains in effect for six months from the date it was issued and at the completion of the initial six-month period, if no claims were made against the policy, the employer may purchase continuing coverage at normal commercial rates.

For additional information and assistance with this program, please contact us.

Layoff response services

Our layoff response services are designed to assist your business and employee(s) in the event of a closure, layoff, or reduction in workforce. We may also be able to help you develop a plan that might even minimize or avoid the need to layoff your workforce. If a layoff is needed, we can help ease the transition between jobs for your employees.  We offer:

  • One-site layoff orientation and workshops. We can come to your business and provide the affected employees with critical information about medical insurance, unemployment information and available training opportunities.
  • We can work one-on-one with the employees with a personalized approach to finding other employment.
  • We can even put together a targeted hiring event consistent with the needs of the employees.

For additional information, please refer to EDD’s Rapid Response Services for Businesses Fact Sheet, or contact us for further assistance.
